Tiger Woods enjoyed another pre-Masters practice round on Tuesday morning after heading back out onto the course at Augusta National with Justin Thomas. Woods, who is looking to make his 24th consecutive cut at this year's Masters, has been slowly building up his form ahead of the tournament after impressing in a practice session on Monday. Will Zalatoris raved about his round with the golf legend at Augusta, describing his performance as 'great' despite the fact he has only played 24 competitive holes this year. The day prior to that successful practice with Zalatoris, he is said to have practiced with wedges and putters on Sunday. Woods is working his way back into contention after undergoing surgery on his ankle in April of last year. This season, he withdrew in the second round of the Genesis Invitational with flu symptoms. The pair were all smiles as they headed out onto the course, where Tiger will hope to repeat his miracle 2019 triumph later this week. It will only be his eighth tournament since he was involved in a car crash in February 2021, which has not stopped him from competing in any Masters tournament since 2022. Yet, Woods will hope to turn back time again this week at arguably the most important event on the golfing calendar. He carried out a similar routine ahead of his 2019 triumph and last year before he went on to make the cut for a 23rd consecutive Masters, tying a record held by Gary Player and Fred Couples. Now Woods has the chance to break that record if he can make it through to the weekend at Augusta this week. 'He played great today,' Zalatoris said about his practice round with the five-time Masters winner on Monday. 'He outdrove me a couple times, so there was some chirping going on. So, you know, he looks great. He’s moving as well as he can be.' Woods can set the record for the most consecutive cuts at the Masters this week He could be seen deep in conversation with world No 28 Thomas at times on Tuesday It will only be Woods' eighth tournament since he was involved in a car crash in February 2021 He carried out a similar practice routine ahead of his 2019 triumph and last year before he went on to make the cut for a 23rd consecutive Masters Now Woods has the chance to break that record if he can make it through to the weekend 'Again, with everything he’s gone through, it’s pretty amazing to see how good he’s swinging it,' Zalatoris added. 'It’s just everything the guy has done. 'You could just sit there and analyze the same stats for his entire career and put him in five different buckets and every one of them is never going to be broken.' Woods' last major victory, and his only since 2008, was The Masters in 2019, when he completed one of the most astonishing sporting comebacks of all time to land another green jacket. His last win at any PGA Tour event was in October 2019. Nevertheless, his presence makes any golf event a spectacle, meaning there is plenty of anticipation as he looks to make his 24th straight Masters cut this week. |
